People don’t go on social media to see advertisements. But the majority of the time spent on social media is spent scrolling past, skipping, or sometimes watching ads.
Today we are going to share with you the 80/20 Rule that all business owners should follow when considering their social media marketing strategies. The 80/20 rule indicates that 80% of social media posts should be useful to your audience — meaning, it educates, entertains, or offers a solution to their problems — and only 20% should explicitly promote your business.
Why only 20% to promote your business? Isn't that what your social media page is for? To tell potential new subscribers what you are all about? Well, yes and no. You aren't just catering to new subscribers but your current following as well.
When you only post promotional content 20% of the time, followers (new and current, inactive and active) will more times than not act on your post. If you post about products, sales, and discount offers too often, it isn’t exactly exciting.
Creating a social media calendar will help you better keep track of how many times you are posting useful vs. promotional posts to your pages.
